"Go ahead, jump. It will all work out." This is some of the best advice I have ever gotten. Sometimes you have to ignore logic, pack your bike and ride across the country. My plan was to ride to the Born Free Show, win a Panhead, do the Biltwell 500, drink to excess, ride home. Simple. That was the beginning and the end of my trip planning. To even call it a plan would be an insult to actual plans. So 6003 miles later, it didn't work out the way I thought it would, but it all worked out. There is never a good time for it. You will never have enough money. You can never get enough time off work. The point is, stop thinking about it, stop dreaming about it, stop making excuses why you can't. Get out there and ride yer bike.

I have never been a fan of softails. They look and handle like crap. I have never thought anyone could make one look good. But, I stand corrected. This Shinya Kimura built softail is one of my favorite bikes lately. I can't put my finger on why I like it so much. I think it is because I haven't seen a bike done this way before and it is a bit weird. Weird is good. For more on Shinya visit his site. Chabott Engineering.
Chris Collins from Biltwell is the owner of this fine example of a Panhead. I don't know what it is about this bike, but every single time he parks it somewhere a hot naked chick drapes herself over it. (I have to get me a panhead)
Caleb does some nice work. I met Caleb on the EDR, a fine upstanding capital "B" Biker and one hell of a builder. Check out his site here, CRO Customs, and his Blog there. Thirteen 24

Back in November I went to Australia and New Zealand for work. I decided to make the most of my few days off and check out the local motorcycle scene. I was lucky enough to have some "personal time" in Sydney. I made my way to Camperdown, a suburb of Sydney, home of Deus ex Machina. Deus is possibly the finest motorcycle shop I have stepped foot in. It is hard to put into words the scope of the place. First off they build cafe styled bikes out of SR650s and W650s. They take the most unlikly candiate for cool and pull it off with style! They also have a nice mix of V-Twins, vintage and modern Triumphs and full on race bikes. You could actually spend the entire day there and not be bored, They carry everything a biker would want to look at. Books, mags, DVDs, trick parts and more stickers than you can shake a stick at. On the other side of the main shop is a huge door, nore of an arch really, that leads you to the cafe. You can grab a really nice cup of coffee and lunch at a good price. The folks who run the shop are bikers with a capital B. If you ever get the chance stop by and you will see what I mean. Stay tuned for part two.
