"Go ahead, jump. It will all work out." This is some of the best advice I have ever gotten. Sometimes you have to ignore logic, pack your bike and ride across the country. My plan was to ride to the Born Free Show, win a Panhead, do the Biltwell 500, drink to excess, ride home. Simple. That was the beginning and the end of my trip planning. To even call it a plan would be an insult to actual plans. So 6003 miles later, it didn't work out the way I thought it would, but it all worked out. There is never a good time for it. You will never have enough money. You can never get enough time off work. The point is, stop thinking about it, stop dreaming about it, stop making excuses why you can't. Get out there and ride yer bike.

For the past few years New York has been setting up motorcycle only " Safety Checkpoints" all over the state. These are, for the lack of a better term, completely BULLSHIT! I won't get into the politics of it, other than to say it is completely BULLSHIT! I found this link posted by the brilliant BikeEXIF blog. If you are a Tri-State motorcyclist, sign up and stick it to the man. The New York Motorcycle and Scooter Task Force

The NYMSTF asserts that the motorcycle -only "safety" checkpoints being carried out by New York's police are illegal, unconstitutional, have little bearing on our safety and actually endanger motorcycle riders as well as the police officers engaged in these checkpoints. Choosing to use a flexible, efficient mode of transportation is not probable cause or reasonable suspicion of anything but good intentions.If you discover a police checkpoint clearly pulling over only motorcyclists, send an SMS text message to our main phone number, 347-410-6783. Make the first word of your message checkpoint (spelling counts!), followed by a brief description of the checkpoint's location. Your message will be published to both our Checkpoint RSS/XML feed and our Twitter account within 5 minutes

When your rear brake is your only one it is a good idea to not to bathe the rotor in oil. Believe it or not, it tends to degrade your ability to stop in a timely manner. I have to go and change my shorts now...
